Traded a MAS 49/56 in 308 for a NIB Taurus PT 917C
I just traded a MAS 49/56 in 308 for an unfired Taurus PT917 C. It came with a laser sight and looks to be a decent pistol. It's basically a Taurus PT 92 in a compact version. It's a 9 mm, which is okay with me. With the extended mag, it hold 20 rounds. The regular mag holds 17. The MAS was one of the Century rechambers that had issues with failures to extract. I did some work on it to fix the problem, but was never 100% confident in the rifle. I already have 3 other military rifles in 7.62x51, so I'm set as far as that goes. I'm taking the laser off of it. I prefer to simply use the iron sights. I took it out yesterday and ran a couple of mags through it. No problems at all. I already have an Argentine Browning Hi-power clone, but it never hurts to have another pistol. Some folks don't care much for Taurus pistols. I've had a few and have had no problems with them. We'll see how this one goes.

I've never had a Taurus PT92, but I have fired a LOT of rounds through one. One of my best friends had one, and we shot the heck out of that thing, and that was back in the day of cheap Norinco 9mm, so we really ran that gun through it's paces. I don't recall it EVER malfunctioning, even with the crap ammo. Most of his mags were Beretta mags that he modified to function in the Taurus. All it required was him cutting in a new mag catch slot in the mag body, IIRC.

From what I understand, Taurus purchased the machinery for the Beretta and made some minor changes to the design. I've never been real big on the 9mm. I've always preferred the 45 ACP/1911 or 357 magnum/revolver. I had picked up the Hi-power clone just to have ammo commonality, plus I liked the way it felt in my mitts. I had since picked up a Glock 22, and really like the way it performs. Heck, I like almost anything that goes bang when you pull the trigger. I shy away from anything that's gold tone or pink, though. But that's just me.
