Tactical Folder

I have seen a big debate on how stealthy you want to be with a tactical folder, there are many views on this, but to me if you have a tactical folder on your side in your pocket and it is well visible, this might serve as a deterrent for any would be attacker. Although some people do not like to draw attention to themselves because a large knife might draw attention, this can go both ways, what do you guys think?

I like folders. They are discreet enough that you're not attracting the attention that a fixed blade in a sheath on your hip would. Plus, a quality folder is a formidable weapon in the right hands and serves utility purposes as well. I have two Benchmade's that I was issued. One is the AFO (auto-opening, partial serrated blade) and the other is the Auto Presidio (auto-opening, partial serrated). The Presidio is generally the one I carry, because it's lighter and more compact. The AFO is a heavy beast, but I beat the hell out of it in Iraq and it's still 100% functional. Not much finish left on it, tho! The only beef I have with the two I have is that they are partially serrated. I really don't like serrated blades, but they were issued so I didn't have much choice, and I certainly wasn't going to look that gift horse in the mouth! A free Benchmade is a GOOD THING!!!

Any weapon you can have on you is a good thing. I am all about having something on you rather than having nothing in the face of adversary. As a young boy I found myself without a blade twice when it could have prevented serious injury. So I always carry a large CRKT M16 tanto folder or a CKRT M21 folder. Both have been good blades at an affordable price.

I carry the CRKT hammon, very nice and fast assisted opening knife, with nice scales on the handle and liner lock, i keep it in my pocket with clip out, it can be seen but not enough to tell its a knife. I guess its the same argument with a gun, would open carry deter a criminal from attacking you? although some criminals are high, desperate or just plain stupid and don't pay attention, so i guess it depends on the situation.

I carry just the way you do and have never had anyone ask me about my knife till I take it out of my pocket. I don't think enough criminals have the attention to detail necessary to notice a knife clip outside you right hip pocket. They are to busy trying to mentally phyc themselves up for the act they about to commit. An open carry pistol is entirely a different best. In my opinion.

I have an HK auto that's made by Benchmade, and it's a nice knife. I keep it as a SHTF pocket knife, though. For daily carry, I like the Kershaws. I have one and I cannot recall the model name. I have the box outside in the garage somewhere. I'll find it later and post the name. I had a Ken Onion Kershaw Boa a while back and it was a beauty. Lost if somewhere, so I picked up the one I have now the last time I was at Smoky Mountain Knife Works. It has a large blade with a deep belly to the blade that makes it good for slicing and cutting work. I've got at least a dozen or more knives, plus all the bayonets. Some have specific tasks that I bought them for. I'm almost never without my knife. I just don't feel right if it's not clipped into my pocket. Funny how one gets like that. I wonder what a psychologist would say I'm compensating for or why I'd feel the need to always have a knife, pistol or long arm close by? But really, who cares what they think. They're more screwed up than most.

A knife for defense, everyday use or whatever, is almost as necessarily as your wallet these days, i don't ever leave home without mine, although i carry 2, a regular everyday use folder and my edc knife, i don't want to use my edc knife for everyday tasks, because i want it sharp and ready to go if i would happen to need it,

I checked out the model of the Kershaw I have. It's a Rake. I like it a lot.
